Item Description

Macouba Snuff by Fribourg & Treyer is blended with Zimbabwe Flue Stem, Dark Fired & Sun Cured Leaf tobacco.

Macouba Snuff is flavoured with Sandalwood Oil, Rose, Musk, Geranium Bourbon & Tonquin.

Historic descriptions of Fribourg & Treyer Macouba Snuff state that it is a moist, brown snuff of medium mill and strength.

As firm a favourite today as it was with the Regency bucks. Has characteristics entirely its own.

This snuff is mentioned in Thackeray’s Pendennis and may well have suggested to Dickens the name of his famous character, Mr. Micawber.

It is interesting to note that this delicious snuff is still perfumed with pure Bulgarian attar of roses as it was one hundred and fifty years ago.

Price is for what is described as a 'medium' tin containing approximately 1oz of Macouba snuff.

Try Macouba Snuff  by Fribourg & Treyer today.

As I slowly explore the Fribourg & Treyer collection, these snuffs are proving to be something rather special.

Macouba is an intense indulgence of Attar of Roses and other costly essences; intense yet never excessive.

The Fribourg recipes, carefully guarded and expertly crafted by Wilsons of Sharrow allow us to continue to enjoy the art perfected by one of England's oldest snuff houses.

Macouba is a delight. Intense yet delicate. A fine-ish grind yet with a silky moistness which makes it easy to take and eliminates any risk of sneeziness.

A delicious bouquet of roses blended other floral aromas and just a hint of citrus; a sensation of pure delight which lasts well and decays gracefully; a particular pleasure if one is about to step out into a fresh spring or summer day in a garden.

All this and the tin is just so classy! Problems with pinching? I believe this snuff deserves greater dignity than pinching. Snuff Store's own metal spoon is excellent value, has a cup of perfect size [one even scoop onto the thumb or hand for each nostril] - and the spoon is of perfect length for the Fribourg & Treyer tube!

Wow. The first order of snuff i received, had two F&T\'s High dry toast, and this, wonderful treat.

No, not a treat, a Schmalzer is a treat. Something for the night time or rare, for me. This is something for any time of the day, and the perfect snuff to introduce strangers to this alternate form of tobacco we have been fortunate enough to be in \'the know\' about.

I\'ve actually had quite a few strangers comment on it, or even just have asked if they would like some. No one has disliked it, even when they take it a bit to roughly at first.

Flowers, citrus. These flavors abound. The grind is \'soft\', moist and fine, but not hard to take.

I recommend this to anyone, even those who may not enjoy the perfumed snuffs may find this one to be a rare favorite.

The snuff comes in a very generously sized tube which, to me, looks like it has just fallen out of a German WWI ration pack. Unscrewing the cap reveals a fine, medium-reddish brown fairly fine and moist snuff - the fineness of the grind and the narrow, deep tube actually make getting a pinch in my fat finger ends quite a challenge. Unscrewing the cap also instantly reveals the snuff's massive scent of Turkish delight, allied with a sharp, almost disinfectant smell which my wife says reminds her of Izal, but which is not unpleasant. Taking a pinch, that rose/Turkish delight smell delivers a powerful punch but and the disinfectant smell does come through with a sort of fizzing freshness, like sniffing sherbert. Then other botanical aromas come through along with the rose, with bergamot and perhaps orange peel and not too much tobacco. It is a robust snuff, very highly flavoured but I liked it a lot, but then I love Turkish delight (though I've never tried Izal...).

The ladies love Macouba.

Chaps, I'm not guaranteeing that it will get you a leg-over after a couple of snifters. But, in my experience, this is the one that virgin snuff-takers of any age will take to.

(Heaven knows, I have given them enough of my snuff-stock)

I have taken a poll-test from daughters' friends to ladies of a certain age (up to 80) and this is the one they like.

Ladies, if you are still listening after this sexist snuff-rant, then, Macouba is the most fragrant and aromatic of old fashioned snuffs. I am thinking Attar of Roses that brings to mind Granny's dressing table. I am thinking Parisian boudoirs, powdered wigs with the danger of a nearby guilloutine.

And boys, if that aristocratic sex and death vibe is your thing, start snifffing.

NOTE: Macouba is supposed to be the derivation for the name of Dickens' Mr. Mickawber. And he was always skint. Think on.

But do have a sniff first. There are very few sensory experiences that can link you back to Charles D. and this is a couple of qud very well spent. A fabulous snudd

Ah yes - the Macouba:-) I\'m not inclined to agree with the previous writer about this being a snuff unsuitable for everyday use. Having been away from snufftaking for such a long time and having only recently re-acquainted myself with this delightful habit I started off by purchasing as many different types of snuff as I could - to see which I found most pleasing/suitable for everyday use. Whilst I initially settled on Wilson\'s Best SP as my Every Day Snuff I found a close second for me became the F&T Macouba.... Well, many sniffs later - and a few single malts as well - I find that I have to revise my opinion - and say that the Macouba is a delightful snuff EQUALLY suited to having with a good single malt at night or in fact for every day use as well. I can think of no finer snuff...

Macouba by F&T is a highly perfumed snuff and arguably the best of the class. Upon opening the tin one sees a dark reddish brown, coarse ground moist mixture and the nose first detects rose among the many complex and expertly blended scents. To avoid clumping, do not pinch this snuff, but put some on the back of the hand and sniff from there. Taken into the nose, the scent is of course amplified, and rose is joined with sandalwood, tonquin and musk in a well-orchestrated quartet. The snuff has a slight burn, and causes a respectable flow of moisture in the nose. The nose clears nicely, and it has enough nicotine to restore free breathing if you are clogged up. The scent after the blow is long-lasting and primarily rose and sandalwood, with shades of musk and tonquin identifiable from time to time. The scents in this have a wonderful calming effect and it\'s frequently my choice for later in the evening. Not an all day snuff, but perfect at certain times.
