Item Description
Horn Snuff Flask King Ludwig II
These horn snuff flasks are made from deer horn and have a pewter / metal image on either side showing an image of King Ludwig II and a bird.
King Ludwig II of Bavaria has a strong connection with snuff takers in the Bavarian region of Germany, and is famous for (among other things) his extravagance and style. He commissioned the building of 'fairy tale' type castles in Bavaria - for more information please see this page on King Ludwig II.
The snuff flask measures approximately 7cm x 5cm x 2cm - although they do vary slightly in size from flask to flask, due to the nature of the product being crafted from natural deer horn.
The horn snuff flask is imported from Germany and is a traditional method of carrying snuff - historically fashioned and decended from old style 'gun powder flasks'. The horn flask has a horn stopper at the top, which has a tight fit and prevents snuff leakage.
The horn snuff flask would probably be best filled using a small snuff spoon or funnel - as a basic method of filling, you could perhaps fold a piece of paper in half and use this to fill the horn snuff flask with snuff.
The horn snuff flask would be suitable for carrying in your pocket, or perhaps as a desk / table 'working' snuff ornament. It is bound to be a conversation starter when used in company of those unaware of our snuff taking hobby.
The horn snuff flask would make an ideal present for the snuff taker in your life, or a special treat for yourself.
