Molens Pompadour Snuff is ground from pure virginian tobacco leaves and flavoured with clove and bergamot oil with an added dash of lemon.

I was offered Pompadour in lieu of what I really wanted but was out of stock. I accepted but found it different and puzzling compared with my usual. But now it does the job best as an evening (after supper) sniff and is at its best when taken just after a pinch of Wilsons Best SP.
So I suppose that they could be mixed but I like the control of taking them seperately.
Like Molens Oranjesnuif, it's an acquired taste but surely grows and grows.

This was the surprise of my first order with the Snuff Store - a truly lovely snuff. The packaging is by no means as classy as the little tins and boxes I'm used to, a good sturdy but somehow industrial looking see-through plastic case with a flip up lid, and a very basic printed label stuck on the front. After a few tries with the flip up lid I took the top right to use the pinch method, which works fine as it snaps back in place securely.
The flavour is wonderful - cloves, but warm, not sharp or strong, with perhaps the roundness of the scent of bananas hiding behind it and of course the tobacco scent in there too. Not as fine a grind as the Wilson's snuffs I'm used to, but too nice not to persevere with!

I thought it was a complex savory, not unlike what the Burgundy and Carnations I sniffed were trying to achieve. It is on the sandy/ dry side of the snuff hemisphere.

I didn't like the clove at first but after getting used to it I have found that it balances the Virginia tobacco out brilliantly. Much like the Virginia Perique balance in some of my favorite pipe tobaccos. A well made snuff with good tobacco. The clove oil can be a bit irritating but you don't have to snuff this all day to enjoy it. This snuff is a nice holiday snuff for me.The clove brings memories of holidays past. The main focus though is the Virginia tobacco. Strong sweet tobacco. I can only hope that Jaap will grind some Perique up so we can all enjoy the not so easy to acquire perfect blend of tobacco. Minus one star for reminding me of what I am missing.
