Bespoke Tobacco Snuff

We are pleased to announce that ‘Nick D’ has agreed to supply Bespoke Snuff Tobacco to Snuff Store.

Bespoke’s hand-made snuff blends have aquired something of a cult following, and have been sadly missed by many since the closure of Bespoke Tobacco in early 2007.

Bespoke’s Snuff Tobacco will be sold in 10g sealable bags from bulk - gone are the days of the ’swanky’ Kendal type boxes, but who cares eh? You’ll be snuffing a blend that like the phoenix, has just risen from the ashes of snuff oblivion…

Bespoke Snuff Tobacco is based on a plain Kendal SP snuff and then hand-blended with essential oils and individually flavoured with Nick D’s own secret snuff receipes.

Our first offering of Bespoke Snuff Tobacco is the popular Gin & Tonic blend, believed by Nick to be the only currently available flavoured snuff tobacco of it’s kind.

We plan to eventually stock Gin & Tonic, Stephan’s Tipple, and Christmas Joy Bespoke Snuff Tobacco blends.

Old Snuff Video, infact the oldest earliest surviving motion pictures…

What am I talking about? Well, I was doing a search on the term snuff and found a link to Fred Ott’s Sneeze, which in reality is the earlist surviving snuff video, as well as being the earlist surviving motion picture!

Fred Ott was an employee of Thomas Edison’s laboratory in the 1890s. His likeness appears in two of the earliest surviving motion pictures – Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze (a.k.a. Fred Ott’s Sneeze) and Fred Ott Holding a Bird – both from 1894.

In Fred Ott’s Sneeze, we see Fred dressed smartly in suit and tie, standing, moustashioed and holding a snuff bottle and handkerchief in his right hand.

He brings his left hand to his nostril and takes a pinch of snuff, he then violently sneezes and the snuff video ends.

Of course it’s silent, but if there had have been sound, you could easily imagine that the snuff induced sneeze was a real hum-dinger!

The film was produced by the Edison Manufacturing Company, which had begun making films in 1890 under the direction of Dickson, one of the earliest film pioneers. It was filmed within the Black Maria studio at West Orange, New Jersey, in the USA, which is widely referred to as “America’s First Movie Studio”. It was filmed between January 2, 1894 and January 7, 1894 and was displayed, at the time, through the means of a Kinetoscope.

Fribourg & Treyer Snuff is now available at Snuff Store.

I wrote a short article describing F & T’s snuff blends a few weeks back.

One of the joys of using snuff is the feeling of taking part in a little bit of history - none more so than with Fribourg & Treyer blends, as their snuff receipes go back to 1720.

Snuff Box News Update!

We’ve added a number of new snuff boxes to the snuff box section of Snuff Store.

We currently have in stock sixteen different styles of snuff box, from the UK, Germany and USA.
