Silver Snuff Box
Snuff Store has been on the lookout for a ‘quality’ silver snuff box supplier for several months. We now think that we’ve found a suitable silver manufacturer, who has a history of producing fine silver snuff boxes.
As of 25th March the below are available, click Silver Snuff Boxes for more details.
We’re in the process of deciding which snuff boxes to stock and at what price to list them on site. There are about 15 to choose from and we’ve narrowed these down to three as fully described below. In fact, the viability of this silver snuff box quest will eventually be determined by our Snuff Store customers.
Please see below images of silver snuff boxes that we feel are suitable and please either contact us via details on this page, or leave a comment on this post about whether you feel the snuff boxes are suitable; what price you would expect to see them listed at, and finally if we listed them on site would you be interested in purchasing them?
If the snuff box suitability questions come back positive and the prices that you think they should be marked at are within the reach of Snuff Store, we will stock these items. If not, we shall carry on looking!
Round Silver Snuff Box

The round silver snuff box. This snuff box reminds me of the Ozona Raspberry Snuff dispenser. It is .925 Sterling Silver and has various hallmarks; size-wise, it’s 3.8cm diameter x 1 cm deep and weighs 24 grams.
Silver Snuff Box Rectangle
This silver snuff box has an embossed pattern style on the lid. It is .925 Sterling Silver and has various hallmarks; size-wise, it’s 6.2 x 3.4 x 1.5 cms and weighs 34 grams. This unlike several of the other boxes out there is actually described by the manufacturer as a ’snuff box’ - not a pill box. For snuffers, it’s unusual to find something actually manufactured in silver specifically for snuff storage these days.
Plain Silver Snuff Box Rectangle
The plain silver rectangle snuff box is similar in dimensions to the embossed snuff box. It is .925 Sterling Silver and has various hallmarks; size-wise, it’s 6.2 x 3.4 x 1.5 cms and weighs 34 grams. Like the embossed version above, (and unlike several of the other silver boxes out there) it is actually described by the manufacturer as a ’snuff box’ - not a pill box.
So there we have it, what we need from you is an indication as to whether silver snuff boxes like the above would be of interest to you and what you would consider a suitable price for the three silver snuff box offerings above. If the general consensus is ‘yes’ to interested and the price suggested is workable, we’ll stock them.

I would prefer the round snuff box for ease of pocket use also the fact that the snuff aperture is convenient for regulating amount required without waste

I would have thought £15-20 for the circular snuff box and £20-25 for the rectangular. I know base metal snuff boxes can be bought new for about £14 , but I think these are overpriced! Old hallmarked english silver is of greater value than modern small items. The boxes you mention are marked .925 which indicates that they are by a foreign manufacturer.

I like numbers 1 & 3. Number 2 looks rather like a tin plated tobacco box.

Hi,
Personally I like both the rectangle boxes, with the plain one being my favourite.

Hi
I think they are all nice boxes and the varieity of type is good. the one I like best is the silver rectangel with a subtle pattern on it and I would buy one at £30 to £35. the round one is good and I think you would sell a lot at £25/ £30 . if the “rectangles” were for sale a £45 I think this would clog sales dramatically as would putting the round ones on at £35.

The round snuffbox looks extremely practical and elegant. It would be ideal for the pocket, pants or vest.

I would absolutely be interested in these snuff boxes. I have seen the two rectangular ones before, but had not seen the round one. I’d be willing to part with $35 for either one of the rectangular boxes and maybe $25 for the round one. If you stocked these, I’d probably purchase one of each.

I actually have the plain silver rectangular snuff box. Its an amazing piece of art. The lid opens and shuts with a snap. It feels great in the hand and looks great. I would highly recommend you give one of these a try.

Personally I am a fan of boxes that despense snuff the way the round one dose, but that’s just me.

I’m in the market for a quality box that will take a little pocket abuse for day to day carry. The round box with the doser opening is nice, but a functional hinged one would be excellent. As far as Price, well with the fading Dollar, Any Price I mentioned would be laughable. So price them fairly and be gentle on the shipping.
How well do they carry F&T High Dry Toast? If it is leak-proof on that fine, dry grind, it should work for any snuff.
Would it be possible to post images of all three boxes open?
Thanks

Hi
I like the look of the plain rectangle. I drew the dimentions out on a sheet of paper and found it smaller than the “Robby’s” box which to me conjures up an image of an elegant snuff box. As to cost I wouldn’t have a clue but would buy one if Icould afford it.

I would go for No2 at around £25 to £30

I like all three but if I could purchase only one it would be the embossed rectangle. As for price, I have no idea. If reasonable, I would purchase one or all three.

Love all three of them. I would eventually buy one of each as long as they are reasonably priced, i.e. under £30.

I think rectangulars (both) are pretty snuffboxes. Actually I love them.

I like the boxes. I’m still thinking about having one made by a local jeweler. I want a snuff box that will hold several different snuffs (six is a good number) securely enough that they would not mix together and would not spill into my pocket if I chose to carry it there. I won’t suggest a price, which I would expect to be set by the maker.
I like the idea of using a vitamin travel case.

I would favour the plain rectangular form and would readily buy one - if the price is reasonable

Thanks for the comments so far - all very constructive.
I think the prices are going to come in at around the £50 to £60 mark retail… I’d be paying more at wholesale than some of the suggested retail prices, which just goes to show how difficult new silver snuff boxes are to get hold of these days.
I think if you’re after one at around £20 to £30 then the best place would be the antique snuff box section on ebay.
I’ll make a small order of each and post more photos in the next couple of days.
Cheers
Tim

24 Snuff // Mar 22, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Have ordered the three silver snuff boxes displayed and a fourth that the supplier / manufacturer doesn’t have a photo available for - bit of a leap of faith on the fourth one as I’m told it’s a nice snuff box!
Price wise as below.
Round Silver Snuff Box - £49.99
Plain Rectangle Snuff Box - £52.99
Silver Snuff Rectangle with Pattern - £59.99
Silver Snuff Box Rectangle with round edges (not shown) - £64.99
Cheers

Form follows function.Therfore, I favor the the first round box.The appeture on the side appears to efficiently accomadate either tapping out a pinch of snuff to the hand, or snorting directly through the opening.Isnt there any company around that can produce a stainless steel or silver snuff box like the Kendal Brown and the Gawith snuff tins/boxes that have the dispensing issue addressed? I Know it would sell.Untill that time Iwould buy the round box if offered at a fair price.Again the reason is based on the ease of dispensing(especially helpful if you are in a crowded public area.)Thanks for asking for our input.
