BBC Snuff Video

Friday, January 4th, 2008

A Snuff video featured on BBC News Look North back in October 2007, has recently been uploaded on the main BBC News site.

The video initially shows Wilsons Of Sharrow’s factory and a interview with a member of Wilsons Snuff, who talks about snuff users getting younger in age in the UK and that for example, the average age of a snuff user in Switzerland is 24 years old.

The reporter then goes to a pub in Whitby Yorkshire, which has started selling snuff behind the bar since the smoking ban came into force. The reporter speaks to the LandLady of the pub and interviews several pub regulars, one of whom says that he’s given up smoking in favour of taking snuff.

The reporter then ‘in the interest of journalistic accuracy’ tries out a tobacco free snuff, which she describes as being ’pleasant… refreshing and having a nice flavour…’

The reporter ends the video with the comment; ‘…with no danger of passive inhalation, the snuff renaissance looks set to flourish…’

Snuff Makes The Mix

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Snuff made the ‘mix’ in Mix Mag’s January 2008 edition - for those of you who like me may not have been aware of this publication, think of it of being the NME of the Ibiza generation!

The article explored nicotine options open to clubbers since the smoking ban of summer 2007 and mentioned snuff as being a viable alternative for clubber’s needing a nicotine hit.

Snuff Mix Mag

Snuff was measured against nicotine drinks and a electronic device that looks a little like a cigarette, but delivers a nicotine hit without burning any tobacco. Snuff didn’t appear to fair well when compared to these two new nicotine imposters - but I’m sure taking one’s nicotine in a drink can’t be that pleasant either!

One product that was mentioned was Toque snuff bullets - it seems the people at Mix Mag liked the idea of using a snuff bullet.

The article does mention that at a price range of between £1.40 and £3.97, snuff is a financially viable tobacco alternative.

Nicotine ‘Nose Candy’ Slammed

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Zuka Snuff was accused of being ‘unsafe’ and targeting teenagers in an article posted in The Sun on 15th December 2007.

The Zuka snuff article read as being pretty similar to reports published in the same newspaper a few months back, which appear to have been removed, but are still linked from various websites.

The article describes Zuka Black as a snuff tobacco powder inhaled through the nose that gives the user a nicotine hit.

The Zuka snuff article goes on to say that Zuka has already sold more than 100,000 but has got up the noses of Drugscope and Ash.

The article links to video footage of people using Zuka snuff.

Switch To Snuff - The Oldie

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Snuff news recently in The Oldie talking about how one way to obtain a ‘legal’ nicotine fix since the smoking ban is to switch to snuff.

The Oldie Magazine

In the ‘Old Un’s Diary’; The Oldie talks about how their interest in snuff was raised by a story of a tobacconist, who became concerned about their employees spending too much time smoking outside of the premises, that the company offered to buy them snuff to use instead. If they liked it, the company would continue supplying snuff to keep the employees inside the premises.

The article then goes on to explain how snuff is still popular in some UK colleges and a little about snuff etiquette.

The Oldie Snuff Article

The snuff article then closes with a ’sneeky’ snuff story about how it’s worthwhile remembering before accepting the kind offer of snuff, to pinch hard on a button of one’s waistcoat, inorder to leave a indentation in the thumb that ensures ‘ample sufficency’ of snuff is taken!

Zuka Snuff

Zuka Snuff launches Zuka Black and Zuka Zee

An exciting new product is about to bring back the use of Snuff to the UK, as well as offer a brand new alternative for smokers following the recent smoking ban.

Snuff hasn’t been widely used in the UK for over a hundred years, but Zuka is about to release two cheeky new products that are designed to give users a refreshing boost.

Zuka Black (tobacco-based) is based on an ancient recipe and contains a mild blend of tobacco flavoured with citrus fruits to give the user a pleasant snuff experience. Following the arrival of the smoking ban, Zuka Black also offers smokers a way of getting their nicotine without harming anyone around them. Zuka Black is also considerably less harmful for smokers because it is free from the gases like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide that are released when cigarettes are smoked.

Zuka Zee (tobacco-free) is a totally natural menthol flavoured tobacco-free snuff, made from glucose blended with iguana fruit and can give you an immediate energy impact which promotes concentration, efficiency and a general feeling of well being and poses no risk to your health.

Rather than being loose packed in a tin or tub, Zuka products are packaged similarly to a cigarette packet, with a sleek diagonal snap top open lid. Inside is a cotton handkerchief with instructions. Unlike old-fashioned snuff, which has to be placed on the back of the hand or a flat surface to be taken, Zuka comes in a cheeky bullet shaped dispenser that feeds a chamber which can be loaded and sniffed from.

Phillip Rudd, of Zuka commented: “Above all, this is about bringing snuff into the twenty first century and making it available to a totally new generation.

The last time snuff was being widely used in the UK Darwin’s Origin of Species had just been published, we were fighting the Crimean War and the French were revolting. So
it was important to bring it right up to date and develop two totally new types of snuff that are more suited to the modern British social scene.”

The products have a recommended retail price of £4.99 and are now on sale at more than 3000 bars and clubs across the UK. Zuka has also been available at festivals throughout the summer.

Phillip Rudd added: “Because snuff has lain dormant for more than a century it’s an option that simply won’t have occurred to the majority of smokers. At least this way those smokers that wish to continue enjoying tobacco after the ban can get their nicotine in a socially acceptable way that doesn’t require them to stand outside in the rain every time they want to satisfy a craving. We have improved, refined and updated a product that we believe is going to get up everyone’s nose.”

Zuka Black and Zuka Zee can be obtained in single bullets from Snuff Store, at less than the RRP quoted above.

Snuff News Story

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Snuff news story items are becoming more common in national and local media, both on and off line.

We recently had a reporter purchase the below nasal snuff in order to write a piece on the snuff tobacco revival in the UK.

Snuff Order Selection

The online snuff order consisted of Kendal Brown, Packard’s Club, S’nuff, Red Bull, McChrystals Original & Genuine, Wilsons Best SP and Snuffy Weiss.

The surprising thing being that they didn’t ask for a snuff discount, nor a freebie - just ordered their snuff online,  emailed in to tell us that they’d used the site, (as they intended writing a article on snuff) and would be including Snuff Store in the article!

As and when the snuff article is published, we’ll link it here. According to the reporter it will be in the next couple of months. The surprising thing being (although I’m not allowed to mention the name of the publication yet) is that it’s a magazine aimed at 20 to 30 year olds.

So look out for snuff news stories and feel free to link any you find in the comment section below.
