I wrote a short article describing F & T’s snuff blends a few weeks back.

One of the joys of using snuff is the feeling of taking part in a little bit of history - none more so than with Fribourg & Treyer blends, as their snuff receipes go back to 1720.

A Snuff video featured on BBC News Look North back in October 2007, has recently been uploaded on the main BBC News site.

The video initially shows Wilsons Of Sharrow’s factory and a interview with a member of Wilsons Snuff, who talks about snuff users getting younger in age in the UK and that for example, the average age of a snuff user in Switzerland is 24 years old.

The reporter then goes to a pub in Whitby Yorkshire, which has started selling snuff behind the bar since the smoking ban came into force. The reporter speaks to the LandLady of the pub and interviews several pub regulars, one of whom says that he’s given up smoking in favour of taking snuff.

The reporter then ‘in the interest of journalistic accuracy’ tries out a tobacco free snuff, which she describes as being ’pleasant… refreshing and having a nice flavour…’

The reporter ends the video with the comment; ‘…with no danger of passive inhalation, the snuff renaissance looks set to flourish…’

Snuff news recently in The Oldie talking about how one way to obtain a ‘legal’ nicotine fix since the smoking ban is to switch to snuff.

In the ‘Old Un’s Diary’; The Oldie talks about how their interest in snuff was raised by a story of a tobacconist, who became concerned about their employees spending too much time smoking outside of the premises, that the company offered to buy them snuff to use instead. If they liked it, the company would continue supplying snuff to keep the employees inside the premises.

The article then goes on to explain how snuff is still popular in some UK colleges and a little about snuff etiquette.

The snuff article then closes with a ’sneeky’ snuff story about how it’s worthwhile remembering before accepting the kind offer of snuff, to pinch hard on a button of one’s waistcoat, inorder to leave a indentation in the thumb that ensures ‘ample sufficency’ of snuff is taken!
