A beautiful individually handmade snuff box, (so the grain and colour may differ slightly from the image.) all are of excellent quality and lovely to hold.

The Zebra Wood Snuff box is hand made by a craftsman in Germany on a 'bespoke' basis to a very practical (no surprise there then eh?) design - BMW, Mercedes, Wooden Snuff Box...

The snuff box measures approximately 6.5cm long, 4cm wide and 2cm deep. It can hold around 10g of your favourite snuff.

The operation of opening this zebra snuff box is ingenious. The lid closes very tightly and is held in place by a beech dowel, which will colour up with use from the snuff tobacco it holds in place.

To open, you slide the dowel out and what only can be described as a 'triangular' opening appears in the box. Fill the box with your favourite snuff. Replace the pieces and you're all set. To view full operating instructions, click how to use snuff box.

There are two ways to use this snuff box;

1/ The dowel has a 'dosing' notch in it, with an arrow stamped into the side. This dosing notch can be used to get a measured amount of snuff. Push the dowel in and the dosing notch appears.

2/ Also push the dowel in and a small circular opening will appear. You can then tap out your snuff onto the back of your hand, and sniff or pinch to your nose.

I've just returned to snuffing after a break of some (well, around 20!) years, so needed a box that would be both convenient (to slip into the pocket) and aesthetically pleasing (that's half the enjoyment, after all).

The design of this "box" is excellent.

The combination of wood with the benefits of a (normally plastic) "tap box" container is ideal.

The design ingenious. I was a little concerned at first that the "box" might leak somewhat; but, having used it daily (and increasingly often) since I received it, I can say that the tolerances are fine, keeping the contents well and truly in their place.

The dowel (opener) was a little stiff at first, which is only to be expected; but, having eased it through use, it's now sufficiently easy to release, without any feeling of its potentially working so loose that it will compromise the security of the contents. One particular advantage over the sort of box I used to use is that this is beautifully rounded, enabling me to keep it handy in my trouser pocket, resulting in a slight warming, and consequent benefits to the flavour, of the plain snuff I have returned to with thorough enjoyment.
