The clarification from Tony Seaton as to what "Extra Strong" actually means in a snuff explains why I felt this one packed a punch without apparently being any stronger in flavour. It seems to have more of an underlying tobacco tone to it than some (such as the SP100), and lasts well in the nose.

There still seems to be some debate over the "differences" between Queens and Tom Buck:

Having used both Queens and Tom Buck, and found the difference indistinguishable (save for one slightly dry tin of Tom Buck I had a while back), I contacted Wilsons of Sharrow for clarification.

A quite charming lady there advised me, with a certain smile in her words, that I did not get any prizes for such an excellent nose, but yes, Tom Buck and Queens are the one and only time Wilsons sell the exact same snuff under two different labels.

There are historical reasons for preserving both labels.

So there you have it - any variations are entirely down to the age of the snuff, and how/where it has been stored.

As to the snuff: it's a very good, strong SP with a high degree of bergamot in the flavouring. Think Earl Grey tea and you're on the right lines.

It's a very high quality, classic snuff, and one of the regular, stronger "plain" snuffs I keep on my desk when I'm working, alongside Wilsons Best SP and the Samuel Gawith Irish blends.

Top marks for a top class snuff. Definitely one of my "regulars".

Tom Buck is a must have for any snuffer out there! Gorgeous, and one of my favorites.
This snuff, I did find slightly dryer and fine.
Beginners would perhaps find this snuff to be harder to take as it has a tendency to fall into the back of the throat if one isn't careful.
Tom Buck leaves a heavy bergamot note with what I find to be a lemon and eucalyptus undertone (?). It is very much like Queens Extra Strong but I find the bergamot to be slightly stronger in Queens. The Tom Buck also seems to be slightly less dry, so the two definitely have their differences.
Tom Buck also has a heavy and lingering nicotine hit that I love, especially since I am medicating anxiety with the compound. Less of an epinephrine effect than some nicotine products.
Great stuff, I thoroughly enjoyed the scent upon breaking open a fresh tin, the slight ammonia in conjunction with the Mediterranean flavors, beautiful.
5/5 from me! Thanks for the wonderful experience!

This is an interesting snuff and I would very much like to meet Mr T Buck purely for the whole nostalgia thing. My guess is though that he has long gone so back to planet Earth I must come.

I find this snuff a little difficult to take because the grind is a lot finer and most of it ends up down my throat. However, a quick pinch and a slower in-breeze took care of that.
To me the snuff itself is a dusted down version of Grand Cairo without the colour. Bergamot, Lemon run a mock and there you have it. I think it will be a simple case of what kind of consistancy one prefers.
Not one for the sneezers but a nice snuff all the same.

I think one or two previous posters have confused "strong snuff" with snuff bearing a strong aroma or flavour.

This is a beautifully crafted SP, made from quality tobaccos, with a subtle bergamot finish. The term "extra strong" describes the character of the tobacco/preparation, and consequent nicotine hit.

Where this snuff really excels for me, compared to some other strong snuffs [like Jip, Pöschl's Red Bull] is that it delivers a glorious lift without heavy flavouring. This is a fine example of an SP of light aroma and deep, satisfying tobacco qualities. It's also neither excessively dry nor so fine ground as to make it difficult to take.

Tom Buck is a definite resident on my study desk; at times when I am writing or composing, I want that lift, without too much flavour to distract my creative thoughts.

Strongly recommended.

[For a strong camphor/menthol hit, try Hedges, McChrstals' Original - or Jip if you also want the nicotine wake-up call! I love these in the winter months ... for strength with a slightly more fruity - if somewhat 'artificial' taste, try Red Bull]

I am in agreement with the reviewer below in that the \"Extra Strong\" title is a bit of a misnomer.
With the bergemot / citrus taste it is an obvious step up from Grand Cairo and Gold Crest and in that respect it is stronger than those. However,I would not describe it as a strong snuff which may be off putting to anyone that\'s new to snuff,or indeed , this particular one.
It\'s very flavourful and one of those that I would class as an all day and every day snuff.
Well worth a try.
