Item Description

Irish High Toast No 22 by Wilsons Of Sharrow is described as medium brown toasted SP snuff. Irish High Toast has a basic aroma of fine tobacco, slightly scented with citrus oils.

Irish High Toast gets the 'toast' in it's name (for a full description, see Professor Phillips Griffith's informative snuff website.) from a fortunate snuff drying accident in mid 18th century Ireland, when the tobacco the snuff was supposed to be manufactured from was 'roasted', and the resulting snuff was found to be delicious.

Mentioned in Robert Twigger's book The Hunt For The Big Snake, as being 'the strongest snuff on the market', we'd say that this snuff is a strong slightly scented snuff, and worth a try if you prefer or want a more 'natural' tobacco flavoured snuff.

Price is for a 'medium' tin of Irish D High No 22 Toast Snuff.

Well, this one is an intriguing little tin indeed. On first inspection it's a pale shaded innocuous looking snuff, but on first pinch I thought "they've sold me a bonfire!", and I thought I wouldn't be persuing it nuch further.
On subsequent tries (it cost me a whole one pound forty three pence, after all! I'm not one to give up after spending that kind of money...) I'm starting to find some complexities in the flavour - I'm finding a 'smoked' quality to it, like Lapsang Souchong tea, and the scent of new leather.
Reading the reviews I notice everyone seems to read the flavours of this one differently, which is why I said it was intriguing - it's getting more interesting by the day!

I have been using Irish High Toast 22 for many many years and I cannot recommend it more highly as it is a superb snuff and always a pleasant experience at any time.

A very dry, light-coloured snuff with a very fine powder consistency. The aroma is smoky and earthy and hints of green tea.

Being fine grind, taking a large pinch can be difficult, but a large pinch is just what is needed to properly sample it.

The aroma develops to a distinctive Virginia tobacco leaf aroma, reminiscient of Grandpa's cigarettes as I remember them (well before they started pumping chemicals into them). A very natural burning-leaf aroma with hints of beer-like aromas.

The nicotine level doesn't seem high until a little while after taking it, when it starts to come through convincingly.

Certainly one of the better, more complex and satisfying versions of this type of snuff.

This is my first \'Toast\' style and I was happy to buy a Toast from Wilsons as I\'ve been consistently impressed by their products. This is a very dry textured and smelling Snuff. Not perfumed of course and very \'thick\' if I can describe it\'s scent that way. I use it occasionally and enjoy it but it\'s too heavy for me to use all the time. I\'ll enjoy this tin but I\'m not sure I\'m hooked for life on this one.

This was my first toast style snuff. I've had a few others but come back to this one. It has a wonderful "toasted" flavor. Simple, soft, but full. No gimmicky pefumes are needed to enjoy the richness of this one. It also has a nice nicotine lift, and is very dry and smooth.
Its not entirely suitbable for a beginner, but an advanced beginner could handle it and an intermediate will love it.
Hurry up and graduate so that you can enjoy this one!

Wow. This one really does remind you of the smell from an old fashioned tobacconist. I really good tobacco flavour - very aromatic in a natural way.
As mentioned - use with care if you are a beginner - it does have a habit of hitting the back of your throat unexpectedly and making you splutter a little.
An excellent addition to my current rotation.
